Overview
Jiangsu University of Technology (JSUT) was brought into existence as Changzhou Teachers College of Technology in 1984. Situated in Changzhou, the central region of the Yangtze River Delta and also a renowned historical and cultural city in Jiangsu Province, it has become a provincial engineering-oriented undergraduate institution of distinct characteristics with the coordinated multi-disciplinary development of such disciplines as science, economics, management, arts, education, fine arts, and law. It aims to foster both application-oriented undergraduate talents and vocational education teachers along with master's degree graduate training, and won the first-rank achievement of the undergraduate teaching evaluation supplemented by the Ministry of Education in 2008. It is a decision-making and consulting research base of the People's Government of Jiangsu Province, a national key vocational education construction base of teachers training, the research center for vocational and technical education in Jiangsu Province, and the training center for higher vocational education teachers in Jiangsu Province.
JSUT has a construction area of over 500,000 square meters, teaching instruments and equipment worth 320 million yuan, and more than 1.98 million books in Chinese and foreign languages. It boasts over 20 secondary teaching units including School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Resource and Environmental Engineering, School of Education, and industry schools and institutes including Department of Vocational Education, Intelligent Manufacturing Institute, New Energy Automobile School, Medical Equipment School, and Liu Haisu Art Design School. It has set up 67 undergraduate majors, recruiting master's degree students in the fields of Education, Mechanical Engineering, and Resurce and Environment, and formed a school-running pattern based on engineering and multidisciplinary development.
JSUT has over 20,000 full-time students (including international students) and over 1200 master students. It has over 1,600 staff members among which are 1,300 teachers with 800 holders of professor and associate professor titles and about 600 doctors. 15 teachers have received “Government Special Allowance” granted by the State Council, 1 have been honored Excellent Teacher of the Nation, Excellent Teacher of Jiangsu, and over 200 person-times have been honored Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Experts of Jiangsu“333 Advanced Talent-training Project” , distinguished professors and etc.
JSUT adheres to the concept of people-oriented, ability-focused, and categorical training. It sets the professional layout based on industries, determines the talent specifications according to the needs of economic and social development, and decides the teaching content with scientific and technological progress and industrial upgrading to cultivate high-level applied professionals. JUST now owns 29 provincial-level talent training programs (bases), such as the Ministry of Education's production and education integration and innovation base cooperation project, the national-level university students' off-campus practice teaching base, and the Jiangsu Province modern vocational education system pilot project.
JSUT closely combines the national development strategy and regional development characteristics, optimizes the discipline structure, strengthens applied research, and forms a number of leading disciplines such as Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science and Engineering, and Education, and has created key disciplines such as“vocational and technical education”and“resource recycling”. It owns 20 provincial-level scientific research platforms including 5 provincial key(cultivating and constructing) disciplines, national-level technology transfer center, national university science parks, provincial engineering (technical research) centers, provincial key universities (construction) laboratories.
JSUT vigorously implements an international development strategy, actively introduces advanced international educational concepts, standards, and resources, and focuses on creating an international cooperative educational characteristic mainly based on Sino-German cooperation. It has established close cooperation and exchange relationships with more than 70 universities in Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Kazakhstan, as well as Macau and Taiwan districts. JSUT employs over a hundred foreign teachers to undertake teaching and research tasks. At present, it enrolls international students from more than 40 “Belt and Road”countries.
